Introduction
The parish of Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall lies some 6 km south-east of Wymondham and 20 km south-west of Norwich. The villages of Ashwellthorpe and Fundenhall, lie about 1 km apart. The civil parish has an area of 9.74 km2. The 2001 census shows a population of 756 in 301 households. In 2011 the population fell to 750. Fundenhall was a separate parish until it was annexed by Ashwellthorpe in 1935. The combined parish was known as Ashwellthorpe until 2003, when it adopted its current name. For purposes of local government the parish council come under South Norfolk Council.

​​​The Council
The Parish Council is the first tier of local government and exists to represent the interests of the parish. In many cases however, the Parish Council’s role is advisory, the final decision resting with the District Council.
There are seven Parish Councillors who are elected every four years. The position is purely voluntary and attracts no payment.

The Parish Council meet ten times a year on the third Tuesday of the month at 7.30pm. Meetings are scheduled to take place in Thorpe Hall, January, February, March, April, May, September, October and November and St Nicholas Church Fundenhall, June and July. Meetings do not usually take place in August and December.
